The Best Area to Stay in Menorca by itinerarioWeb
Relax! If you are about to book some quiet and relaxing vacations, then your best choice is the Balearic island of Menorca. It is considered to be the calmest and more beautiful Spanish island, mainly because it offers a direct contact with the still unspoiled nature. Furthermore, it is ideal for getting away from the daily workload.
Menorca is full of contrasts: the northern beaches like Cala Pregonda, Cala Morell or Cavallería, with their thick, reddish sand; while in the southern part of the island, the crystalline waters bathe the sandy beaches of Cala en Turqueta and Macarella — this last one, the best known —. Several of these coves are considered to be the best ones in Spain and a number of TV commercials have been filmed here!
Its more than 200 km of coastline also embrace the Albufera Natural Park, a pristine area where you can observe several bird species in their natural state. Besides, we can also admire the exceptional views from the Favàritx, one of the most famous lighthouses of the island. Menorca is proud of its traditions, and still preserves small fishing villages with white houses and narrow streets such as Binibeca and Fornells, located in a large and beautiful bay.

However, Menorca is not just nature and beaches. The Naveta des Tudons is considered to be the oldest building in Europe, and is a small funerary monument built thirty centuries ago. Not far from this prehistoric enclave, there is one of the highest points of the island, Monte Toro. From its sanctuary, we can practically see the whole island, where the distances from one extreme to the other are less than 50 km.
How to get around the island? The car is the most widely used transport that allows discovering every corner of the island from the best place to stay in Menorca: villages like Cala en Bosch and especially the cities of Mahon and Ciutadella.
Mahon is the capital and has one of the most impressive natural harbors in Europe, well-guarded by the fortresses of La Mola and the Fort of Marlborough. Ciutadella, located at the western part of the island, offers a fantastic old town: the famous Calle de ses Voltes with the Cathedral, the Plaza des Born and its steep streets to the Port of Ciutadella, full of small craft markets that delight not only the tourists but also the locals. In the charming harbor, with boats of all colors, you can feel the seafaring atmosphere while drinking some Xoriguer gin. Moreover, it is full of excellent restaurants where we can enjoy a good lobster stew, the typical dish of the island.
